Five2Watch: Vessels

For #Five2Watch this week we've selected five artists making work with or about the concept of vessels: Fritha Jenkins, Sarah Hitchens, Andrew Burton, Marcela Trsova and Jessica Lerner

[In the Mouth]Sklottloooltto, 2016

Fritha Jenkins

A collaboration with Rebecca Glover

[In the mouth] skltloctcoctlo
Rolling heads unattached
Rubble coursing down a cliff face
scroorolllclooschlolcrolclolkclowl
shaken, the breath gets knocked out of them
hahhhh [breathe out] hiiiiiii [in] hahhhhhahhhhhhh ha [out to empty]

The project begins with a scream. Live feedback from a performers mouth is transferred into the mouth of a hand built vessel. Performers hands shape the sound. Rocks, vessels and video projections are activated using live feedback, streaming and movement.

Fritha Jenkins

Torn I and II, 2017

Sarah Hitchens

These works explore the idea of imperfection - each piece is torn open to reveal another gash in contrasting white porcelain beneath. There is such an emphasis on perfection in society and yet we all have our own stories, our own woundings - in this work I wanted to express how we are shaped by life and how we can gain strength from adversity.

Sarah Hitchens

Vessels: Unexploded, 2016

Andrew Burton

Fired clay, glaze, paint. Exhibited as part of Sculpture by the Sea Bondi, 2016
